Adobe Alphabet Soup

The new line of Adobe CS3 icons has arrived.

They’re … well, let’s just say they’re not pretty.

However, I think I’ll have to buy two new apps based on these icons. One is “RH”, the other is “JR”. Add a “.NET” icon and I’ll have an OS X dock that spells my domain name.

Maybe the goal was to compel people to try to spell things out with applications. Like a really expensive version of Alphabet Soup.

These new designs have gotten a lot of flack. Sadly.

I know we have standards for icon design and these seem to fall short. But if you think of them more as labels, which is a more accurate way to describe how they are used on a daily bases, they are brilliant. You already know what it is, you installed it after all! When these icons are sitting on the doc they shine. Simple, clean, and easy to find. In my applications folder they’ve got a full spelled out name in text (and typically sit in an Adobe folder anyways).

I for one, love these new designs.
